Smile Big at Any Age

Your smile is an essential part of your confidence, no matter how old you are!

At Pioneer Orthodontics, we create straight smiles for children, teenagers and adults.

Orthodontics for Kids

The American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) and Dr. Michael Tewes recommend seeing an orthodontist by the age of seven to see if your child can benefit from treatment.

This is an ideal age for straightening your child’s teeth because the first permanent molars have typically come in by this time, and crossbites, crowding, and other common problems can be evaluated and addressed before they get worse.

Early treatment at Pioneer Orthodontics can radically simplify (and in some cases do away with altogether) later treatment. It gives an orthodontist like Dr. Tewes the ability to monitor the growth of your child’s jaw and guide incoming permanent teeth.

Dr. Tewes can regulate the width of the upper and lower dental arches, to gain space for permanent teeth, avoid the need for extractions, and reduce the likelihood of impacted permanent teeth.

Orthodontics for Teens

Your teen’s smile is in great hands at Pioneer Orthodontics.

So Your Teen Needs Braces…What Now?

Every teen dreads those words: “YOU NEED BRACES!” But there is no need to worry! Braces aren’t nearly as scary as your teen may think.

In fact, modern braces come in a variety of styles, materials, and colors, making life with braces much easier, more comfortable, and even more stylish than in the past.

Have Braces Your Way!

If your teen is looking to make a statement with their braces, our practice offers a variety of braces, types, and styles to choose from. Some common options include:

  • Damon Braces
  • Ceramic braces
  • Invisalign

Orthodontic braces are a big part of life for many teens. While braces may have had a bad reputation in the past, today’s braces make it easy to look good and feel good!

How Long Is Treatment?

The amount of time it takes to treat your teen’s smile with braces depends on three key factors:

  • Early treatment — Teens that received early treatment as kids typically end up with shorter treatment periods. That’s because early treatment allows orthodontists to monitor the growth of the jaw and recommend further orthodontic treatment if it becomes necessary. Not everybody receives early orthodontic treatment, and in some cases, it may be recommended that a patient wait until they are older to receive treatment.
  • What needs correction — The amount of treatment needed to correct a problem will determine how long the process will take. Different patients react to treatments differently, so while it may take one patient only 12 months to complete their treatment, it may take another patient 24 months. Treatment times can vary depending on how quickly your teen’s body responds and how much work is needed to give you the show-stopping smile you expect.
  • YOUR TEEN! — Your teen’s willingness to use the appliances Dr. Tewes gives them plays a major role in the length of time it takes to complete your treatment. Always remind them to take care of their braces and appliances; this will help make their treatment shorter!
Braces or Invisalign, Which is Right for Me?
