the Community He Calls Home
For Dr. Michael Tewes, practicing orthodontics in Lincoln is more than a career—it’s an opportunity to serve the community that helped shape him.
Dr. Tewes grew up in South Lincoln and attended Lincoln Lutheran before heading to Concordia University in Seward. He earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Creighton University, graduating summa cum laude, before completing advanced specialty training in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, where he also earned a Master of Science degree.
Today, Dr. Tewes is a board-certified orthodontist providing braces and Invisalign treatment for children, teens, and adults at Pioneer Orthodontics in Lincoln and York, Nebraska.
But if you ask him what matters most about being an orthodontist, his answer goes beyond straight teeth.

During his orthodontic residency at Mayo Clinic, Dr. Tewes trained in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of orthodontic needs, including complex and interdisciplinary cases. After residency, he practiced orthodontics in South Dakota, treating patients with braces and Invisalign before returning home to Nebraska.
He later achieved board certification through the American Board of Orthodontics, a voluntary credential that reflects an orthodontist’s commitment to continued education and high standards of specialty care.
That training shapes the way Dr. Tewes approaches every patient at Pioneer Orthodontics.
There isn’t one treatment plan that works for every smile. Dr. Tewes takes time to understand each patient’s needs, goals, lifestyle, and concerns before recommending treatment. Whether he’s evaluating a seven-year-old for early orthodontic treatment, helping a teenager choose between braces and Invisalign, or working with an adult who has wanted to improve their smile for years, his goal is the same: to provide thoughtful, individualized care and create a result that looks and feels right for that person.

When he isn't creating smiles, you'll find Dr. Tewes with his wife, Shelby, and their three children, Naomi, Evelyn, and Gideon.
Family is a huge part of life for the Tewes family, and raising their children in Lincoln makes serving local families especially meaningful.
Outside the office, Dr. Tewes enjoys sports, hunting and the outdoors, reading, serving at his church, cheering on the Huskers, and experimenting with his Big Green Egg.
And while his training has taken him from Lincoln to Creighton to Mayo Clinic and beyond, he's grateful that life ultimately brought him right back where he started.
